Aerial Mapping – Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors
Drone imagery can be used to enhance aerial mapping in planning. A series of aerial images can be georeferenced, and through a process called photogrammetry can be turned into one complete aerial image.
The Royal Institute for Chartered Surveyors (RICS) have recently published an article on the use of drones and 3D visualisation for urban planning (https://www.rics.org/news-insights/use-of-drones-3d-visualisation-for-urban-planning-construction-operations). This explains the benefits of using drones to better understand and analyse complex environments, creating real life 3D visualisations which can be interpreted and inform future decisions.
